Why do bad things happen to good people?

As I thought of the traumatic thing that happened tonight, I couldn't help but wonder, why bad things happen to good people.

We had gone to the temple and enjoyed the peace that being in the temple gives to you. Then after dinner we returned to the car only to realize that it had been broken into. They smashed one of the windows and stole my son's computer and new game system and games he just got and we thought that was it. It was only when we got to the hotel that we realized that they had stolen much more. My bag with all my clothes, my son's bag with all his clothes, (included were many items we received for Christmas), and temple bags for myself and my son with all of our temple clothing. We live good lives always trying to to our best to be good, kind and honest so why does something like this happen and why right after we had just gone to the House of the Lord?

For a moment it makes you wonder why God allows things like this to happen. But, always seeking something positive, I was grateful that we were all safe. The car can be repaired and the items can be replaced. I believe that God protected us and while it is annoying and unfair that we had to go through this, we are all safe. The gifts were lost but the love of those who gave them will always be there for us.

Sometimes we tell ourselves there has to be a reason; but sometimes, as difficult as it may be, we have to accept that there is no reason. Having a reason though would make acceptance come easier. Bad things happen and they will continue to happen. Yes, it makes you fearful but that's when you have to hold on even stronger to your faith. The verse from 1 Corinthians 10:13 comes to mind: "...God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." I will admit though, it is very difficult at times like this. It is hard to convince yourself after you know that you do what is right and things like this still happen.

I pray that He makes us a way through this so we can get the repair done quickly and be able to move ahead. I pray that He sends His angels to surround us, comfort us, and quiet our fearful hearts and minds, as that is what we need most right now.
