As a woman of color, it disturbs me that people continue to discriminate because of color. One would think that now when knowledge is so easily accessible that things would have changed.
History has so many stories of people of color fighting for their rights. The word equality is used very loosely to encompass a variety of issues. But despite using the word, it is sometimes difficult to changes minds and perceptions. Actions speak way louder than words.
I may not be the only one with these thoughts since there are television shows that clearly show choices people make because of color. It shows how people are treated differently because of of it. While these people may proclaim they are not discriminating, it is their natural response.
In addition to being a person of color, I am also a woman. And, just like any other woman, despite color, I have to deal with the inequalities that women face everyday in a male dominated world.
In God's eyes, we are all equal, our color or gender doesn't matter, all that matters is the goodness and kindness in our hearts.Â
To change and actually promote equality, mindsets need to change. Humility and treating others how we would want to be treated would pave the way to true equality of color and gender.Â
